definitely finish one before starting the next, but you can try the ratlines on
that one as well.   #10 crochet string doesn't come in black in my store,
besides, if you want the "tarred" rope look you have to paint the ropes.

Jonathan,

It takes me a half-hour to attach two cylinders in a fuselage!  Wouldn't it be
easier to start with black thread?

I have a partially built wooden plank-on-frame ship here.  Maybe I should force
myself to finish that before I tackle a paper one.

It literally takes a 1/2 hour.   I've modified my technique  where I build on
both sides of the cardboard now instead of the butterfly design like in the
picture.   I would definitely recommend starting with the ratlines.   Spray
paint them black too if you want them correct (standing rigging would be
covered in tar)

Thank you Jonathan.  I think I'd have to try that before actually making
the model.  I'd hate to go through a lot of build and find I have to go to a
hobby shop, looking for the right size ratlines.

(By the way, I thought the whole thing was called "ratlines" until I saw the
instructions for the ship.  I'll never learn to speak boat.)

they are surprisingly easy to do in #10 crochet cotton thread.   All I do is
paste the template part onto corrugated cardboard, and then on the outside
crossings/ ends of the strings, I make a slit to pinch the thread:

then a dot of white glue at the crossings.

It looks amazing!  But the
ratlines and shrouds....  I don't know which method would cause me to tear out
less hair.
