Hi Jerry,

the main feature that I'm looking for is the ability to develop on one
platform and build for another. With perl2exe I can do this. I can
compile a perl script for Solaris on my Windows workstation.
Is there some flag that I'm missing, or is there another solution that
I may have overlooked?
PAR cannot "cross-compile" scripts for other architectures. As a matter
of fact neither perl2exe nor PAR compile at all, but what I am driving
at is that PAR does not create binary executables for other platforms.
What *does* work, however, is creating a multi-architecture .par archive
with 'pp'. (Using the -m flag.) You add the binary dependencies for
different platforms to it and then just run "pp -o executable
my_multiarch.par" on the target platform to get the binary executable.
This will not help with building binaries for platforms which you do not
have access to. If perl2exe can do that, I am really impressed: Where
does it take the target system's shared libraries from? I doubt it uses
gcc to cross-compile a full perl with all the XS modules and then puts
that build into the exe. Probably, the resulting executables for the
foreign platform are still dependent on a local Perl installation or so.
Hope this helps,
Steffen
