Hi,
producing the grid is not the problem. I want to produce it in such way
that the data is distributed among process-ranks. For example if i run
paraview with four processes and we want to have a grid with 8x8, each
process holds a small piece of the grid(4x4).

Hi,
Perhaps this python programmable source example will be helpful:

Hello.
i want to create a source plugin for the vtkImageData, which
generates a distributed grid. The plugin now holds variables for
entering the global offset, size and dimension. How should i set
the extents on the different processes? Should i set the piece_id
for the different pieces? At the end the data should be able to be
processed by the distributed filters of paraview. Thank you for
your help!
