i spoke to the yapc::na 2010 columbus organizers about a perl 6
workshop around the time of the conference. we discussed various
scheduling options (weekend before, during, after) and the related
costs, benefits, and risks, and determined that the most feasible
solution was to have a room in the conference venue during the entire
week-long conference set aside for parrot foundation and perl 6
activities. i consulted patrick, and though we both feel this is not
ideal for a perl 6 workshop, we can work with what we have.

i expect to have an unconference-style calendar, with folks proposing
topics to discuss, as well as a general place folks can hang out, try
to learn perl 6, and ask questions of the implementors and other
users. i'm working on more of that bit of organization now, and
welcome input of everyone on this mailing list. to that end, i'm just
starting a wiki page at
  http://trac.parrot.org/parrot/wiki/Parrot_Virtual_Machine_Workshop_2010
to go over those details.
