I am happy to know that. But I need to wait for someone in Gentoo that makes this patch available ;) So i will continue using parted-1.7.1 with GParted, till someone do it, or parted-1.8.3 comes out.

Excuse my naive question, but i am not a dev :-/

That shouldn't be necessary, since just yesterday I fixed two bugs
that would cause parted to crash when probing CD-ROMs.
