For years, I would raid my drives in my main home machine but I found for my needs it was a waste of usable space and more overkill than needed. Now I just cron rsync to run and copy to another drive in the machine and then every so often I rsync it over to an external drive. This allows me to use the backup drive if I am in a pinch for space and allows me to pick and chose what dirs I want to copy.
Even if my data is encrypted I don't like putting too much of my stuff in the clouds, so I revert to just using lamer backup methods.
