Hi Doc,

I'm a new GW user, but I think I've got this under my belt now.

You can do it in 2 ways. Either, get goldwave to search the file and
split it automatically for you, I.E. by long silences, (go to effects,
filters, and set the silence duration, (I think that's where you do
it). Might not work well with a book though, although it should, if
the books been divided up into chapters.

More predictably, and the way I know, is to open the file, fast
forward to where you want to make the first break, press right
bracket, (]), and cut the selected part of the file. Open a new file,
paste the selection in, and save that as say bible1. Return to your
original file, and fast forward through again until you want to get to
the next break point. select cut open new file and paste as before.
Save this as bible 2.

Do this till you reach the end of the book.

I believe there is a way to jump through using time, however I don't
know how to do it, though I'd like to. That way you could break the
file up into predetermined lengths.

You can however vary the speed of the fast forward, so if you can set
it at 20 times, you could press fast forward, leave it for 3 minutes,
and you'd know that you'd gone through an hour of the book.

Oh you and others might want to know that there's a goldwave list now,
[EMAIL PROTECTED], put subscribe in the subject line. It's a
new list, so is still expanding, but we have quite a good
knowledge-base developing.

Rob

Hi.

If you are referring to the table showing the differences between the
players and recorders that RockBox will work with, then the url is
http://rockbox.haxx.se/docs/devicechart.html

Note that the devices and features are in a table, so make sure you
use your
screen reader's table navigation or you probably won't make much sense
out
of it.

Best regards,

Rick Alfaro

I'm sorry, but someone sent a message to the list saying which archos
players/recorders would work with rockbox, but I've accidentally
deleted it.
Could someone send the URL again?

Sarai,

Below, I have pasted in a message that Aman posted to the list quite
some
time ago outlining the instructions for enabling a full set of talking
menus, and folder and file navigation. I just did this myself, and it
worked great. I now have an Archos with talking menus.

---snip snip---

Hi.
This seems to be somewhat on topic, and I've received a few requests
to send this info, so I'll send it to the list.
To activate the talking menus, you first need to download the daily
build of RockBox. This is not the stable version 2.2, but a later
build, and
is available at
http://rockbox.haxx.se/daily.shtml
Make sure to download the build for your unit, whether Player,
Recorder, FM Recorder, or Recorder V2. Then install it as you would
any
other version of RockBox. Make a .RockBox directory on your Archos,
expand
the zip file into that .RockBox directory, and copy the archos.mod
file
(player), or ajbrec.ajz (recorders), to the root of your archos. Now
download the english.voice file from

http://joerg.hohensohn.bei.t-online.de/archos/speech/voicefont/english
.voice
Make a langs directory inside the .rockbox directory on your archos
and put the english.voice file into that. That is, the path to the
english.voice file should be
j:/.rockbox/langs/english.voice
Assuming your archos is assigned drive letter J. Now disconnect your
archos as usual, turn it on, and hit menu. You should have talking
menus.
Stay tuned to the rockbox list, subscription information for which is
on the
Rockbox site, for future improvements.
Aman
