Hi Tessa,

Open volume control and press Alt+P for Options then press Enter on
Properties. Tab once which will take you to playback radio button. Down
arrow once to get to Recording. Tab again and you will be taken to the list
of volume controls available for display, including the one for microphone.
Arrow down through these, making sure the ones you wish to be displayed are
checked. As you need to hear what you are recording from cassette, ensure
that what you hear is checked, then press Enter. You are now back in the
Recording Control settings for volume. Make sure that what you hear is
selected and that the volume of that control is at a reasonable level. Close
volume control and the next time you record from cassette, you should be
able to hear what you are recording.

Sorry if this explanation sounds a bit long-winded. Hope you can follow it.

Best.

Robert.
