I'm not a big fan of Windows Media player, but it does seem to work better than Real for this particular application. The simplest way to set it, probably, is to delete the mlb cookie and start again. You'll have to re-enter your email address, but when you bring up a game it'll go into preferences. I use Window-Eyes, and it gives me preferences for the player. I haven't set it in a while, but I think WMP is the first one and Real is the second. It doesn't say. All it says is that they are radio buttons without saying what the buttons are. And then be sure to save the settings and you should be fine. I wish they would run their broadcasts at more than 12kb per second, though. I know they can do better than that. I don't guess they will until a lot of people complain about it.
