I'd expect that your speakers will not be activated when the USB device is connected because only one output or playback device would be invoked being the default one.

Could well be wrong, but that's what I'd suspect.

Cheers, Stephen

Hi,
Thanks for those great comments.

I do not have external speakers; mine are built into my monitor.

When you say the default is changed to u s b speakers, pardon my
ignorance here: but will that affect my monitor-based speakers?

Many thanksfort hese ttips and Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Hi Fred,

I installed one of these units last night and after a bit of a wrestle got
it to work on a PC using Windows XP and JFW 5.1.

1. Make sure you turn off JFW (or any other screen reader), before
connecting to the PC USB port. This is because, once the connection is
made, the default player in your audio devices changes to USB Speakers.
The
screen reader must be started after this happens or it locks up because
the
default player has changed. It's worth mentioning, that the same problem
would occur if you started streaming, playing a CD etc, before connecting
the USB device.

2. I found I had to turn the volume up on the Sound dialogue which can
be
reached from Control Panel. You can do this from a couple of places and
it
only effects the player device being used (USB Speakers).

3. I noticed an annoying tone when the receiving device was emitting
audio. I found that by winding the thin wire antenna around the unit that
this hum disappeared. Don't know why!

4. Another tip about tuning the device. Mine came preset to 106.7 FM.
It can also be set to 106.9 FM, 107.1 ... up to 107.9 FM. These seven
settings can be chosen by the appropriate setting of three dip switches.
The switches are located behind a rubber pad which can be easily removed.
This pad is easily located being near the end of one of the sides,
adjacent
to the USB socket. The documentation shows the settings for the various
frequencies, I just tried them out till finding the frequency I wanted.

Good luck.

Stephen Jolley
