Pam, No, they do not sound similar! Sonic Noise Eliminators are another animal altogether; they have a rubber "stopper", that fits in your ear canal, then they have a series of "baffles", that are just outside your ear, in a cylindrical fashion. The "baffles" are inside the outer ear part. They don't stick out of your ears much, though! I would suggest Guitar Center or any of the "larger" stores; I'm sorry that I can't help you much more than that. They don't muffle the sound, rather, they prevent it from doing much damage. Keep trying!
