I don't know why people have such a problem ripping CD's with Windows Media
Player.  Just don't have the player in skin mode and make extensive use of
your tab key and it's easy to do what you want.

To add to that, though, windows meedia player is good for a beginner. Then 
you could move up to cdex when you know all of the ripping methods and such.
