Personally, the best 2.1 setups I have heard in terms of sound quality are the Logitech Z2300 system which isn't expensive at all, but really kicks but. The other one is the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 but these are almost twice the price of the Logitech Z2300. I am specifically referring to sound and not convenience features like remote controls and additional inputs. A lot of folks also seem to like the Boston Acoustics systems for sound quality.
