Hi sharon,

Before you break down and spend cash on a new rom burner, you should try 
using a laser lens cleaner on it. It will save you a bunch of headaches and 
should take care of the skipping problem. You can grab one from radio shack, 
or the electronics department of any store like best buys, circuit city, 
ETC.  Hope this helps.
