Hi,

The most likely reason you are loosing audio when you plug the device in is 
that it's taking over as default audio on the PC.  Try plugging your 
speakers in to the output of the device after plugging it in to your USB 
port..

Also I haven't had a lot of luck on some systems in the past   using AC97 
onboard sound.  The line in jacks levels always tended to be overly high for 
recording regardless of setting unless you turned the line input nearly to 
zero and then it dropped to almost nothing and still wasn't usable. But that 
was on two computers I had a couple of years ago.

I wonder do you have Total Recorder it would work much easier that way I
think than Goldwave.  Total Recorder is more set up for that sort of audio.
Then you could pull it in to Goldwave and edit it if you like?
