Bob One of the advantages of the Stream, as it records at a low rate, is that recordings take up less space. It's designed as a voice recorder, not something to record a symphony concert with. And that's for the better, in my estimation, as it discourages bootlegging. The VR Stream is a mp3 player and book reader, not an all purpose audio machine. By designing it the way it is, HumanWare was able to keep its price at the reasonable end of the spectrum. If you truly need a recorder, buy a recorder. If you want something to play mp3 podcasts and radio shows and sermons, my principal use of the Stream, this fills the bill. If you want to play NLS digital talking books, Audible Books, or RFB&D books, the Stream fills the bill. If you wish to read textfiles and electronic texts, the Stream can do this too though, personally, I'd have to be pretty desperate to listen to the supplied synthesized speech. Let it be said, I'm biased towards TripleTalk/Double Talk speech of the BookPort and that which I have on my pcs.
