Remember that the iPod's are an Apple product and will primarily play
MP3, WAV and Apple formats. From the technical specifications at
http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html:
Audio formats supported: AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from
iTunes Store), MP3 (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, and
4), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV
With the Zen Stone however, you'll still get MP3, but you'll get
Microsoft's proprietary audio format (WMA) instead of Apple's. You also
don't get the lossless formats such as WAV. From the Zen Stone user's guide:
Audio Playback Formats: Audible Format 2 and 3, MP3 (Up to 320 kbps),
WMA (Up to 320 kbps) and WMA with Windows Media Digital Rights
Management (WMDRM) 9
In looking at the FAQ for the Victor Stream it looks like it supports
MP3, WAV and some open source formats, so it won't play proprietary
formats from Apple or Microsoft. From the FAQ at

The Stream supported audio formats are MP3, wav, OGG Vorbis, or 3gp
(AMR-WB+).

The victor reader stream is the most accessible player and I am not
being smart. If you just want to play music one file after
another any cheap mp3 player will do. but for total access to what
you are playing the stream is the player of choice. I even excuse the
$300 price tag. for the access you get that is a bargain.-----
