Right on! there are some very good quality microphones out there which are 
being sold for what can be best described as "Giveaway prices", just bought a 
small Sony mike which can clip onto your shirt or whatever, its damn good for 
lectures and stuff like that and I only paid $15.00, the connecting cord is 
made of nylon rope -obviously the lead must be incased in the cord - but this 
means that the lead won't break in a hurry.

The mike just plugs into the Zoom H1 without a problem, should work well with 
other recorders such as Minidisc, Olympus etc.
