Am surprised that the radio station you work with doesn't allow you to borrow 
equipment to record with, though. 

There's a particular high end solid state recorder I like to use from the 
Equipment Centre at the BBC which I find extremely accessible ... Though I've 
forgotten it's name totally. It only has built in memory and you need to use an 
external mic.
