Dave,

As you probably remember, we've corresponded on GW Info. When I looked at
Audition, I was a little concerned
about whether one could use plug-ins consistently. It would be helpful if you
would report the difficulties you
encountered back on GW-Info. However, I did believe that their noise reduction
and equalizer dialogs were pretty
accessible. I also thought their pop and click eliminator was pretty good,
too. It seemed to me there were two
versions, one was very graphical and the other was less so.

Sound Forge could use set files of some kind, but there are things you can do
to manage. For example, many sliders
don't speak as is, but if you turn "Speak All" on with INSERT a, you can
usually figure out how the values change. I
think I see how I can get many of the sliders to speak but have not tried that
yet but will try to let you know if I make
progress. The equalizer has several modes but the Envelope mode comes up by
default. However, there are tabs
that you can click on with the mouse pointer and get the equalizer into
"Graphic" mode which has sliders.

I tried an audio restoration program called Diamond Cut once that was
specifically designed for records. I don't know
if it is still around or if it is even accessible but it might be worth
checking out. You can probably find it with a Google
search.

Maybe you will get some other ideas, and maybe I will too for that matter.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson
