The Free Studio softwre by DVD-Video-Soft. There's a great number of converters which are mostly quite useful. When you install it, don't use the software itself, but select the converters by going to programs and dvd video soft.

Hope that helps.

Subject: Extracting Audio From MP4 Files

While Goldwave can manipulate so-called "Media Foundation" M4A files,
what can handle, and extract video from, .MP4 files? MP4 is the new de
facto standard for distributing standard-definition TV content on
Usenet. It's almost as small as the former .AVI (DirectShow) format
(also referred to as DivX or XVid), from which Goldwave can extract
audio.

And while we're at it, what about .MKV files, the HD version of MP4's?
Anything good at extracting audio from those?

TIA for any assistance.
