OK, now I understand, it has no problem with a small file, only with a
larger one. Do you get any error message? Does it hang up, or does it tell
you that it completed the conversion?

No, what i said was this.
1 i converted a small file to mp3, that worked. using the method you
specified.
2 then i tried to set up a larger file to convert to mp3. did the same
steps as you outlined for the first one. when done there was no mp3 in
the folder i had placed in the path.
so while the smaller file converted just fine, the larger one did not
convert at all.
would you like the file so you can try it?

Well Sunshine, I am not sure I understand what you wrote, but it seems to
me
that you did what I said and it worked, then you did it again with larger
text and it worked again, but then for some reason something else did not
work when you tried to convert text to MP3.

There are always many possibilities for something to throw a wrench into
the
works when you are dealing with computers. You must be patient and
eliminate possibilities one by one. If you are able to convert small
files
to MP3 but not larger ones, try using a lower bit rate. Keep in mind that
bit and sampler rates go together, for example, you cannot save something
at
56K bit and 44100 sampler rates.

Above all, if we are to try to help you, you must take care of being very
explicit when asking questions, about the detailed steps you have taken,
as
well as the result and error messages.

Best,

Humberto

folder where you want it with out writing out the full path it will not
save like it should?

Hello Sunshine:

Try doing this:

When it asks you the file name to save, give it a full path, for
example:
C:\filename.mp3

Or better yet, create a folder inside c:\ for the files, for example:

C:\tts

And then when saving a file, type:

C:\tts\filename.mp3

That is what I do and it works fine. Of course, you must have
previously
selected to save in MP3, the bit rate and sampling.

Humberto

i can get it to make waves but not mp3s even when i select to save as

something is kind of confusing.
in the encoders tab of settings you choose mp3.
I got that.
now you would think to choose mp3 right in the save audio dialog
right?
well, if you do this it will not save as an mp3.
so again i ask you steve how are you making mp3s when i know others
who
use the program that are having the same problems.
i have the lame that comes with the balaboka program so no problems
there. Please advise.

The background audio means that you can specify a song and that
song
can play and then loop wile the actual text is converted and the
songs
play til the text is finish. So at the end you end up with one
audio
file containing your text plus music, you can specify the volume
and
such.

Steve: balabolka does not offer background audio, and it does not
offer to sync your files with ITunes after finished. And I'm not
even
sure if you can insert tags for voice, speed, and audio clips in
the
middle of the text like you can all do with text aloud. Yes it
cost
some, but at least its worth it. And its not just one developer
who
do
everything and who can stop it any time or start charching money
anytime he feels like. And I just generally am carefull of open
sorce
software, but that last point I guess is just me. Its not a bad
program, but I also find text aloud easyer to use, and those
features
I'm willing to pay for.
