Chris:  Is there a way to just disable your anti viruse software just long
enough to test it and see if that's the problem?

That's my thinking on this too, but I'm nervous about uninstalling it 
because it does offer a pretty good layer of protection against viruses. 
and anyone going around without an antivirus program on their system is 
just asking for trouble. Anyways, i wrote to the rummersoft guys again 
so hopefully they'll respond. If anyone else has trouble I'd urge you to 
write them too, maybe we can get their attention.
