Hi All, Do you have a copy of California Insects by Powell & Hogue? Many people grew up with this guide and keep it as a valuable resource. This has been such an important book to many in the entomological community and I am extremely pleased to announce that a new version of the guide, which will be titled A Field Guide California Insects, will be published by UC Press. I am honored to be working together with Jerry Powell, Pete Oboyski and Joyce Gross on this project. We will be completely updating the taxa and text and making it a highly illustrated guide that we hope will be a valuable addition to everyone's library. We especially hope that it will be an inspiration to young (or young at heart) budding entomologists.
One of our first challenges is to decide on what taxa to include. With such a rich fauna in California we can't treat everything, but want to be sure to include distinctive and important representatives of all orders. It would be very valuable to us to have your thoughts on what to include. Given that we can't grow the book without exceeding a good size for a field guide, we also need to know what taxa could be cut to make room for new additions. You can help us with this by going to the survey document at the link below and filling in any taxa to add or delete. Also a box is provided for general comments.
