Venerable Listers,

I have a problem on my 8500 (G4-350/240MB/8.6). I have a couple of
partitions set up on my HD, one of which has 8.6 installed. I am trying to
install 8.6 on a different partition as a test before I drop in a new,
larger HD. I have tried to install the standard version (non-customized)
as well as custom (Core 8.6, Universal 8.6 or 8.6 for "this
computer"). Every installation except the Core 8.6 hangs while the popup
indicates "installing OS 8.6" (i.e., after it does the check of the
partition.) I have tried installing from the Installation CD, as well as
an image copy (mounted) of the CD, both with extensions turned off or on at
startup. I have also tried by booting from the Installation CD both with
and without extensions turned on. Each installation (except the Core 8.6)
hangs at roughly the same point. The Core 8.6 install completes successfully.

I ran Disk First Aid/Verify on the CD with it finding no problems.

I was able to install OS 8.0 full and upgrade to 8.1 without any problem.

Can anyone offer any reasons, suggestions, work-arounds, etc. to get the
full 8.6 install to work would be helpful. At this point, even a few smart
a$$ comments might lighten my frame of mind about this. ;-)

Thanks in advance.
