Failing that, if it still insists there is something running, press
Cmd(Apple)-Option-Esc and click force quit. It's not pretty and will
most likely leave a few loose ends lying around but it should do in the
short term. From this you will probably be able to tell which task
(application) is causing the problem and disable it or rectify the error.
