Neither.
Each slot on the board has a corresponding partner.
a1 b1
a2 b2
a3 b3
a4 b4
a5 b5
a6 b6
If a1 and b1 have the same size dimms installed then those 2 slots are
interleaved. So if you have all 128's in your 9600 then you would need 6 dimms
that aren't 128mb installed in the opposing slots to be sure your machine has
de-interleaved Ram.
The XLR8 card is a good choice btw. I ONLY use XLR8 upgrade cards. They are the
best.
