This might sound disingenious, but have you tried turning off the 
fancy fog options in whatever game you are playing?

FYI:  The last version if QuickDraw 3D I have is 1.6...  It came as 
part of the QT 4.1.2 full install.

It is comprised of the following extensions (for me at least):
Apple QD3D HW Driver
Apple QD3D HW Plug-In 
QD3DCustomElements
QuickDraw(tm) 3D
QuickDraw(tm) 3D IR
QuickDraw(tm) 3D Viewer
QuickDraw(tm) 3D RAVE

Depending on your video card, some QD3D elements are supported, some 
are not.  Some may even be enhanced.  Check your video card documents 
to see.
