As long as you have at least ONE Mac somewhere in your network that has a
USB port then ANY modern camera can be hosed into your Mac.

If you have a PCI Mac, and lets face it...anybody who's ANYBODY has at least
one PCI Mac around the house somewhere, then you can pick up a cheap USB
interface PCI card on eBay and go to town.

The older cameras have serial interface which makes them useful on every Mac
with a printer port.

I suggest that for your FIRST point-and-shoot digital camera that you pick
out a MACWORLD magazine from the pile in the basement a look back to 1998 or
1999.

There you will find reviews of digital cameras rated and compared (March
1998 MacWorld has an article comparing a dozen in various price ranges) and
then go shopping on eBay to pick one up. The Editors Choice awards are
always a good place to start.

I have picked up three Mac-compatible serial-interface digital cameras in
the past two months that retailed for over a thousand dollars EACH when they
were new and I paid less than $100 for all three of them. Two are presents
for very young Mac users (public school age) but all they all worked just
fine with my 6500 and my PCI G4 Daystar Genesis.

I tried out my daughter's Canon S200 Powershot with my orangeLink
USB/Firewire card and it worked just fine too.
The images sit in the camera tensed like a coiled spring waiting to LEAP
onto my desktop !!!
