How about 8.6 vs. 9.2.2?

I recently installed 9.2.2 on my 9600/g4/450 using OS9 Helper and so far
have been impressed with the results. Startup is a bit slower than with
8.6 but overall it is somewhat faster, which was a surprise. It gets
along well with the xlr8 ZIF carrier and Voodoo5. It also plays nicer
with the Soundblaster Live than 8.6 did (using original drivers). No
more creeping volume levels and I no longer have to disable one of its
extensions. Browsing doesn't seem any faster using Netscape 7, however.

I did have some trouble at first which was solved by disabling the
ProxyApp and Classic Support UI system extensions.
