Careful how far you go with that or you'll weld the relay
contacts closed.  Inductive loading promotes arcing.

The better suggestion was to use a sensing power-strip for your 
peripherals.  Plug your computer into the sensing strip.  It senses 
when your computer is turned on and then powers up the other outlets 
on the strip.  This moves the switching task out of the computer 
along with the potential for damage.  You can still plug your monitor 
into the computer-switched outlet.
