I don't know if this would be the issue with Compaq drives or not, but 
at one time some [if not all] Compaq machines stored their BIOS on the 
hard drive rather than in a ROM or BIOS chip on the motherboard.  Other 
than that, one SCSI drive is the same as another, it doesn't matter it 
if is in a Mac or a PC.
