Do you have access to a pc?
If so run powermax or whatever you get from Maxtor's site and check the
drive with a diagnostic utility with the pc.
No pc, check the warranty before you breach it with this sort of practise.
If its only 3 months old, get advise from Maxtor and get it replaced if
it fails their recommended test.
