Well, the usual way to trouble shoot such a thing is to start up holding
down the shift key. Then, when the finder is booted, open Extensions
Manager. It's been awhile, but I believe it is essentially the same as in
9.1.

Next, in Extensions Manager, under the Selected Set button, choose one
with a name such as OS 8.1 base.

Reboot.

If it boots correctly, then you have an extensions problem. Add back
extensions in sets of 5 or so and rebooting until you get the problem.
Then the extension with the conflict is in the last set. Fun, but the
only way I know to do it.
