down the shift key. Then, when the finder is booted, open Extensions
Manager. It's been awhile, but I believe it is essentially the same as in
9.1.

Next, in Extensions Manager, under the Selected Set button, choose one
with a name such as OS 8.1 base.

Reboot.

It won't start up with Base. Thanks ;o)

If it won't start up with the OS Base set, then do a clean re-install of the OS...something's seriously hosed with your system.
