Everyone tells us NOT to reply to spam even to be taken off the list as that just confirms the spam got through.
The new CAN-SPAM law our oh-so-intelligent Presidenté signed requires that you use the spam's "unsubscribe" link... Of course, that same law also takes away your right to sue the spammers.
Just for kicks, I stuck a sacrificial email address on the alter. Rarely used, it was getting maybe 6 spams a week. On Feb 1, I did four unsubscribes. That address now receives over 100 spams weekly.
I'm killing over two hundred spam messages a day. What a waste of my time.
No provider-based filters? What email client are you using?
(as of this morning) I've received 4,791 spams since 1 Jan. Eudora does fairly well. Between filters I wrote and the beysian ones it generates automagically, only about half a dozen spams a week end up in my In box.
