I did read Peter's post as well and am taking that into consideration, thanks.

ya. And most SCA adapters have termination pins too.

That would be nice since I would like to put the drive at the end of the chain so I can place it where I can get some fan ventilation across it. Does not appear though as any of the 8 jumpers on the SCA 68 to 50 pin adapter are for termination. It's also not stated in the drive or adapter information as to whether the adapter jumper settings take the place of the drive jumper settings. I'm wondering if I use the adapter do I leave the drive jumper pins all open or do I have to jump them both accordingly.

One thing I've noticed is that when I go to press the computer SCSI connector onto the adapter, the whole adapter board has play in it and can *easily* tilt back until the entire top row of pins soldered at the underside makes contact with the edge of the metal drive cover!

Technically, both ends of a SCSI chain must be terminated. The end
on the mother board is already terminated for you. You must
terminate the last device.

But when the guy that sold me the drive (he sells many) told me to "set termination on other items on the chain," this implies to me that the CD ROM would need terminated even though it is the first item on the chain. Hmm, what to do?
