To do this the least expensive, I would suggest using a box running Linux as
a print server, and have it connected directly to the printer, and the rest
of the machines on the network talking to it.

I have NOT tried this with EtherTalk/AppleTalk, but I have done this without
to much trouble for PC and Linux mixes.  I would think it could be made to
work, but it'll probably be a bit of work.

It means a dedicated machine, but you can pick up one that will work for $20
or $30 on eBay.  The beauty of this is that just about any printer will
work, both now and later on.

You might want to check out a Linux/Mac distro docs - yellow dog or the like
- to see what it will support out of the box.
