We do a LOT of printing. For draft stuff, we prefer cheap inkjets and such. For production we like expensive crayon poopers (wax) and lasers.
Of those three types of printers, inkjets have the highest cost per page...even without amortizing the cost of the printer over it's life. Inkjet printers are cheap handles with hella expensive, easily dulled razor blades.
The wax printers and lasers are quite a bit more expensive initially, but they're a lot longer lived and supplies are *cheaper* on a per-page basis.
That's what we thought initially. Then we included all the costs... electricity and repairs and 3rd party inks (savings) and time, and our particular printer use habits. We found it's quite a bit cheaper to quickly dump a few pages on an inkjet than it is to pay for the warm-up cycle etc of the big printers. So one-off drafts go to the inkjets...
hum. The price point changes dramatically when you include the 3rd party carts for the inkjets. We pay $5 to $8 each for G&G carts, instead of the king's ransom Epson and HP want.
