If you install upgrade with existing system you will have to perform a brief
procedure to install altivec system software that was not installed for your
old processor.

If you install system from scratch (like the machine was brand new with a
blank HD) the OS will recognise the G4 processor in the Sonnet card and
install altivec as a matter of course and you can throw in the Sonnet
extension afterwards.

I had a formac card and driver too. It was not an issue.

I had problems with frequent crashes at first. I referred to Sonnet and was
immediately told that interleaving the RAM was the problem though I found no
mention of this in the handbook. Once RAM was not interleaved the problem
disappeared.

Sonnet also recommended that virtual memory be left on. I've always
preferred to work with it off.

My installation was in a 7300 and I used 128 and 64 sticks. It needed a
double boot to get it to start up but was okay once running. Once I
installed more than 600MB or thereabouts the machine did become unstable and
more difficult to start up so I gave up any ideas of 960MB of RAM. Problem
could have been the sticks. It performed best with 512MB.
