I'm after maximum performance and stability. I suppose if I wanted best
compatibility + decent performance I'd go for 8.6? But for fastest speed
possible (without going for any type of minimal install - I still
require full functionality) while not crashing every ten minutes, what
should I use then?
A lot is going to depend on your intended purposes. I have become a big fan of OS 7.6.1. My 8600/300 is now running 7.6.1 and is being used to work with CorelDraw Suite 8 for graphics and WordPerfect 3.5 for writing. It is very fast, very stable and an excellent working machine.
optical two button mouse with scrollwheel? Or any ADB optical mouse of any kind? For that matter - are there _any_ regular ADB mice with scrollwheels at all?
I use a Kennsington Turbo Mouse (a trackball). I like personally think it is great. It can easily be customized to the users needs and it can be used as a scroll wheel too.
loading Rev c iMac (and I was also probably one of the few who didn't hate the hockey puck mouse (it was nice just moving it with my fingers, pity the mouseball picked up so much gunk all the time) it originally
I am another who found the hockey puck mouse to be very useable. Matters of keyboard and mice a very personal as are matters of which OS to use.
