 Subject: Re: [PCI] recording alerts

In the sound control panel in 9.1 there is a facility to record more alerts.
I tried to get a brief snatch of Sly and the Family Stones (Why not?) from
an MP3 track I had on CD. Did not work. It asks to record from a CD. Maybe
an au type would work? Maybe CD is mentioned because I have this as set as
input. I have some au sounds on HD.

It is a little thing I was reminded of by recent posts on sound... I have a
 7600.

sly and the family stone - nooot bad.
get som other editing tool and save as "system sound"
SoundApp and iTunes
will import from cd,
quicktime will edit and convert, soundApp will convert aswell to system sound
(copy -> new file - > paste)
soundstudio, sonicworx, audacity
are great editors for snippet sounds.

Yes, I have SoundApp (great prgm eh?) and I did convert to system sound just
now I read your post. SoundApp first said the track was too big to convert,

oboy that NEVER happened to me - how big was it ? 500 mb ?

so I edited a smaller bit in QT and then got SoundApp to convert this bit to
system sound. Plays fine but I am not sure what I need to set the sound
control panel parameters to record an alert from it.

when it is in the system sound format IT IS already an alertsignal - just click open the file named system (inside the systemfolder) and drop it there and IT WILL SHOW UP
in the soundalert control panel - OK !?
and you can choose as an alert sound
task is finished here.
ok ?
