 Can I stick a 180 MHz (60 x 3) processor card pulled from a Power

It will work fine.

How? With the intended 60 MHz x 3? I thought the 8500 (it's a /120 mobo) could only handle up to 50 MHz. Just want to make sure before I plop it in, as the case was not designed too well as far as airflow is concerned and I can't exactly fit a fan to the card.

On the x500 and x600 machines (e.g. 8500) the motherboard speed is set by the CPU card. So a PowerCenterPro 180 MHz card (60MHz X 3) will try to run the motherboard at 60 MHz in any machine in which it is installed.

The 7500 and 8500 are extremely unlikely to run successfully with a 60 MHz bus speed. However, there's a decent chance that the 9500, PTP and/or S900 will tolerate that speed. At least, I have a PowerLogix PPC604e adjustable CPU card that will run in exaples of those three machines at 60 to 62 MHz.

That said, I'm pretty sure that only the PowerCenter Pro shipped with the 60 X 3 card. Any other Power Computing machine bearing a 180 MHz card should have something like a 45 MHz X 4 or maybe 51.4 X 3.5.

Of course, if you get a PCC machine on the used market, there's no telling what CPU card has been traded into the thing.
