While we are on this subject, and hopefully not veering too far off topic here, I am having occasional problems connecting to my pc (for a specialized cadd program that is slow on a 1GHz pc, so no Virtual pc here) from my Mac.
Setup: Beige G3 with G4 533, 10.2.8, 640 meg ram pc running 98se Connected via ethernet, sharing a HP 2200DTN printer
About half of the time that I try and connect via Connect to server using SMB I get an error -47, and frequently when this happens the finder crashes and restarts. If I try and reconnect I get the same error message. If I restart my Mac, about 1/2 the time I can connect, the other 1/2 I still get the same message.
While I could usb drive it or burn it, I would much rather just use the existing wires to do the file transfer.
They are also hooked up to a win NT server, but I cannot connect from my Mac to the server via smb. I have not installed services for Apple on the server yet. It also serves for our accounting system and I REALLY do not want to mess anything up there.
Anyone have any ideas here? Or am I just pushing my beige past what its' brain can handle?

While I highly sympathize here Len I wish you had changed the subject line a lot more. Now this thread will tend to go WAAAY off course.
But that is the chance we take when a thread is started
