Hi all PCI-powermac listers;

Listers with a very good memory may recall the SCA SCSI drives
mentioned here almost 2 months ago, I have been trying to buy a working
one since that time.

Long story short, I received a dead drive from SurplusComputers, no
spin up even, and I've spent the last 1.5 months dicking around with
these yahoos. After many calls, many emails, over multiple weeks, none
of which were ever returned, I finally started hassling their tech
support personnel instead of their RMA dept., and got a bare drive
shipped. It was missing the adapter I needed to test it, despite
clearly arranging with 2 different personnel to actually send me
everything that I had purchased.

Despite multiple additional phone calls, it's now almost April, they
still have not yet shipped me the adapter I need to even test the new
drive (no power connections for normal computers, without the SCA to 50
pin adapter, recall). It too could be a doorstop. I got yet another
promise today.

Long story short, my feelings are that if you want waste huge amounts
of time, just try getting working equipment from these guys. I don't
know if they are crooked, totally incompetent, or both, but their
returns voicemail is often overfull and the end result to the customer
is the same. I don't feel picked upon, I think they are really very
bad at the service they say they provide.

Hope this helps someone from making a mistake.

Brian -

Sorry you have had such problems with SurplusComputers. My experience has been a little different, although my last order was around two months ago - for a flash memory card - which arrived as promised and as advertised. I have ordered both the 18GB and the 36GB SCA drives from SurplusComputers, and am currently running a pair of each in a separate case with an Adaptec card in the wide data buss format on my beige G3 (updated to a G4). The one time I did have a problem was on a tool order, where one of the tools sent was the wrong one. After a phone call, they promptly sent a correct one, and said to keep the incorrect one (a $10 paint sprayer), rather than sending it back. This happened probably 2 years ago. I have ordered on line at least a half dozen times, and have been satisfied each time.

While anyone can blow it on occasion, I would say don't give up on them.

Good luck,

Tad
