Yeah, I had a similiar experience...

I put Mac OS 9.2.x on my Power Mac 8500 with a PPC604 chip (OS 9.2 + requires a G3 processor)... and it
was a bit unstable, froze up randomly here and there.. so I gave up and went back to OS 9.1...

Hi David,

I think you have the same problem I have. The 7500 and 7600 (my system)
can
only take up to 9.1 according to the Apple Web site and Mactracker.
However,
I have been looking at macsales.com (OWC) at the XPostFacto info and there
is a Help Installer that will allow the 9.2.xx to be installed. Haven't
tried it yet. I got the same type of message when I tried to install.

Although XPostFacto does work, your mileage may vary. I had 9.22 installed on my 9500 for a few weeks and it self destructed after a while (no longer booted and or froze on booting.) As it seemed like way too much hassle to put it right, I gave up and reinstalled 9.1. (9.1 has never let me down so far.)

Matt
