I just got into the same dilema!
I could by a [EMAIL PROTECTED] for the price of a powerlogix powerforce 1ghz upgrade (about 250$). I got a 8500 with a sonnet 400mhz upgrade card. I use OSX everyday. Do you think i will see a big difference between my 8500 and the BW or should i upgade my mac? Should i wait til i find a G4 for around the same price? I know some said that it isn't worth nothing to invest in those Powermac, but i still need some advice. Thanks!!!

Just think: All too soon there will be G5 and G6 Macs everywhere and our beloved upgraded 604e PowerMacs with spiffy G3 and G4 PCI Sonnet cards in them will have all of the desirability of the Quadra 950 or 840av models and then attendance in this List will taper off to a mere dribble and I for one will miss it.

Unlike the quadras you mentioned (I have both models BTW) PCI PPC Macs can
atleast be useful on the web which is what most people use a computer for
these days. So unless the internet gets some new processor intense format
they are safe for a while. Hell I just upgraded my 7500 to a 604e200 a week
ago (it was $5 for the processor) just so my videovision setup had a few
more horsepower.
The way I look at it once these machines are not worthy enough for the
masses I can get my upgrades for my units extremely cheap. 400Mhz Sonnets
(like the one in my 8500) can be found relatively cheap and give a decent
boost to an old PCI Mac running OS9 so that it is very usable as a main
machine for most people. So if you are using a PCI Mac as your main machine
adding an older used G3 is still cheaper then buying a Mac mini.
I think if you need OSX support then just buy a new machine.
