I wanna stick something a little faster into my 8500. I have 300mhz g3 in there but I forget from whom it is. Just a short question, what is the BEST upgrade to find for these machines?(and where do I get one?)

otherworldcomputing.com has700-800MHz accelerators for PCI Macs

I have to admit a bias against 8500s because of the case. They are extremely hard to work on.And My knuckles have not been injured since I sold my case to Powermacs. RAM checking an 8500 is pure torture.

A 7X00 case or my beloved 9600 are SOOO much easier . I waste less time working on them and have more time enjoying them. Just my opinion.

If you love the 8500 so be it.

For what a new really fast accelerator for your 8500 will cost you can get a G4 Sawtooth that will be much more upgradeable and have 400-500 MHz
in the meantime. A 100 MHz bus and AGP graphics can't be found in a legacy PCI Mac. This machine will also probably run Tiger. Which I don't think a legacy amchine ever will/ I could be wrong.

Or you can try to get on the swap list. They may be taking new subscribers now.

Good Luck whichever you decide.
