I live in the heart of Silicon Valley & read most of the "stuff" coming from
the Valley.  I didn't get that impression. Why would a different chip spell
the end of the G5? I am not a "techie" in the sense of working in the
industry, but do not follow this thinking.  Whatever changes they may or may
not make will still leave us "old-Mac" users doing the same thing:
innovating & "working around" whatever needs or problems that arise.

With the nano-technology always rumbling away in the background & the actual
production of "organic" chips, there are bound to be changes even in our
beloved Macs, sooner or later.
