Listers,

I am at my wits end with IE 5.1.7, which I installed weeks ago. Since then,
I haven't been able to establish a secure connection to a website. I always
get the message:

"Unable to establish a secure connection to (URL of website). There is a
problem with the security certificate from that site. (The MS Preferences
Library is corrupt. Reinstall to fix the problem.)"

IE 5.1.7 doesn't use and installer. The instructions say to just drag the
folder to the hard drive.

I did notice that there are two "newer" extensions in the 5.1.7 folder:
Internet Library and Configuration Library. Although the instructions don't
say so, I substituted these in my extensions folder for the older versions.
After that, Word 98 would abort with a Type 2 error. Putting the old
Configuration Library back in fixed that problem. However, the secure-site
problem persists even with the new Internet Library extension. I've Reset to
Default in I.E. Preferences:Security and restarted the program, but that
doesn't help.

Can anyone tell me what is going on and what I need to be doing to get this
to work? Mactopia is no help.

BTW, when I revert to I.E. 5, the security connections work, but it still
has the nagging problems with loading websites that prompted me to upgrade
in the first place.

Any help appreciated.

Bob
